Today’s Whole Heart Lesson
The ancient Hebrews understood the heart as the seat of the emotion, but it was also the seat of the decision and the seat of the action.
Our culture pits our emotions against our decision and tells us in different circumstances that our actions are meaningless or essential.
It’s easy for us to feel disconnected with ourself when we don’t understand and live out of our whole heart.
The Problem
The problem is simply thinking right and doing right has little value if we’re not feeling right about it.
- When we feel right and don’t think right or do right — we have cognitive avoidance.
- When we just think right and don’t do right or feel right — we have cognitive dissonance.
- When we do right and don’t think right or feel right — we have toxic behaviour.
Most of us, most times will do what we do or not do what we don’t do with at least two-thirds of our whole heart, so we avoid those extremes. I’ll be unpacking this more as we go along in the course.
Question
Am I ready to align my whole heart with God’s heart?

Lord I thank you for creating us with hearts to know you. Thank you for helping us to align our decisions and actions and emotions. I thank you for your peace and joy and hope that proves to us we are trusting you. Help us have ears to hear what the Spirit is saying Amen.
